Researchers took waist circumference as a tool to measure obesity as Waist circumference (Abdominal Adiposity or visceral fat) is more accurate marker of diabetes and heart disease than BMI. More than 30% of men and 50% of women have more than recommended waistlines and are at high risk for diabetes and heart diseases.
Canada and South Africa are the top countries in obesity (average BMI IS 29) while Eastern Asia has only 7% obese people.
